Tumblarity redesign
Tumblr recently introduced a beautiful looking stats page where you can keep track of all kinds of things. Many people (myself included) see it as statistics for a popularity contest. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that, it’s actually a lot of fun when the numbers are going up.
However, I kind of went the other way on that. On enjoysthin.gs, I actually made it harder to see friend counts and number of enjoyed things and things like that. I did that specifically because I didn’t want to turn it into a competition.
When your personal URL is pronounced like “Ted Roden Enjoys Things” you don’t want that site giving you unneeded pressure.

This is where I’m at with the firefox extension, I’m hoping to launch it this weekend… probably just as a beta. Keep in mind that you can choose to enable/disable any part of it, I can’t imagine you’d want to look at all that at once.
Features include:
A big “Enjoy This” button next to the home button
See the number of messages you have
See the number of new things waiting for you
Comment on whatever webpage you’re looking at (without enjoying it)
“Enjoy This” button
The realtime sidebar
Not pictured: The main reason I’m making this extension.

A new bookmarklet feature!
You can now enjoy images right from your tumblr dashboard. If you’re looking at your tumblr dashboard and you enjoy an image, I’ll save the link to the destination post instead of saving a link to tumblr.com/dashboard. Try it out!
Fun fact: you can also enjoy things directly from google reader.

Enjoy things that you don’t own and didn’t invent. It’s good for you!

I updated the installation process for the realtime sidebar, it’s dead simple now. Check out the new video too.

I know what you’re thinking, “Ted, I love enjoysthin.gs, but it just doesn’t interrupt me enough during my day.” Well, worry no more!

I’m introducing the realtime feed as a beta feature. I’ve been working on it for a while but it needs more testers. So if you have a joy account, you’re an honorary beta tester and you can see it.

It’s designed to be installed as a sidebar in Firefox. That way you can see what’s going on while you browse other sites.

I spent much of last night working on some scalability concerns. I set up a load balancer, an additional web server and switched the physical server that serves as the root of the operation. One side effect of this is that the calculations I use to determine how many ads have been served is at least half off. So if you wanted two-for-one ads, today’s the day.

Close enough!
(I’ve been knee deep in memcache all night).

An amazing web application by Ted Roden, enjoysthin.gs aggregates information from a bunch of your other profiles and throws them into a format that is more fun to surf through than your usual generic lifestream.
