A good deal of users on enjoysthin.gs use a feature that enables 1-click posting to their tumblr account. If you see something that you like and want to share it on tumblr, click a button and it end up on your tumblr site (example). Many of these users use this feature several times a day. They will be the last users allowed to do this.
As of today, I’ve disabled anyone from signing up for...

Other than the lack of tumblr, it’s not at all surprising. (Tumblr isn’t even in the top 10.)

A serious question
I have many amazing artist friends. People who are getting ripped off all the time. I do not want to be the cause of that.
A few months ago, I quietly added a feature to enjoysthin.gs. A feature that only I could use. It allows me to blacklist entire domains from being enjoyed. So if boston.com wrote me and told me they didn’t want users enjoying things from the big picture, I’d just...

Quantifying the TechCrunch effect.
I’ve always tried to be open and publish any stats about enjoysthin.gs that I thought were intersting on this blog. I’ve posted number of them in the past about where my users were coming from, browser stats, even how I develop the site.
Today I wanted to write about the “TechCrunch effect.”
Yesterday, TechCrunch linked to enjoysthin.gs fairly early in the day. It was a...

Google Reader support
instapaper:
Google’s new Send-to feature includes built-in support for Instapaper. Thanks, Google Reader team, for the inclusion in this handy feature.
The Instapaper bookmarklet now supports Google Reader natively as well. (You’ll need to reinstall it one more time. Sorry for the inconvenience. But if you’re using an RSS reader, you probably don’t mind dealing with URLs or Javascript.)
Simply...

I turned off twitter importing a few weeks ago while testing something and forgot to turn it back on. So when I did finally get around to importing all the tweets, I decided to watch them zoom by in the realtime feed.
It’ll probably take a few hours to catch up, so if you’re interested, go ahead and watch it yourself.
Realtime is the best time
For one reason or another, I’ve been super interested in realtime on the web. I looked into how it worked and put up a quick version of a realtime feed for enjoysthin.gs. It worked by polling the server every few seconds and grabbing the latest content.
That sucked.
It was slow and hard on the server and utterly unscalable. It required a lot of hits to the server and a ton of extra...

The video proof that I’ve been working on the Firefox extension. I should be able to get a beta version of this out to people real soon now…
There are more features, but here’s what I cover in the video:
The realtime sidebar and the main toolbar
When you go to a web page, you can see what’s already been enjoyed on that page (you can turn this feature off with just one...

Enjoy things that you don’t own and didn’t invent. It’s good for you!

I also enjoy things.
I updated the installation process for the realtime sidebar, it’s dead simple now. Check out the new video too.
I know what you’re thinking, “Ted, I love enjoysthin.gs, but it just doesn’t interrupt me enough during my day.” Well, worry no more! I’m introducing the realtime feed as a beta feature. I’ve been working on it for a while but it needs more testers. So if you have a joy account, you’re an honorary beta tester and you can see it. It’s designed to be...

– ReadWriteWeb writes about a lot of apps, but “few stand the test of time.” On the other hand, enjoysthin.gs has “sticking power.”
Milestones
A nice early milestone on a site like enjoysthin.gs is when you notice that it’s no longer your friends that use the site, but it’s complete strangers who aren’t using it because they know you, but because they think it’s cool. A second and unexpected milestone has recently been reached: my real life friends are back.
Also, I just went back through all the old blog posts...

$20 is a bargain for the amount of fun the site’s giving me.
– I swear that this is an unsolicited testimonial that arrived in my inbox today from Alan Trotter, a full 8 days after he signed up for a joy account. I’m glad to hear people think it’s worth the price even after it’s settled in a bit. I constantly worry I’m not adding enough...

An enjoysthin.gs user who just launched his own iPhone app wrote to me and asked “What have you found to be the most rewarding ways to engage with users? … Any tips for a person that’s not very good at self-promotion but who simply wants to be a good creator of interesting things?” I emailed him back a response that quickly became an unrelated rant. I don’t know if...
RSS Feeds
As promised, you can now view your things in various types of RSS feeds. You can get a feed of the things you like and filter out various things, this is super useful if you want to import your enjoyed things into something like friendfeed.
You can also get a feed of your most enjoyed thing. Since you can only have one most enjoyed thing at a time, this feed will only have one thing it it. This...
